The Neighborhood Schoolhouse and Jefferson County Rec Center have TEAMED up for Spring Break School-age care!

Event: Spring Break 2008 Port Townsend and Jefferson County
Dates: Monday, March 31st – Friday, April 4th 2008
Age: Group 6-8 years and Group 9-11 years
Group leader/child ratio 1:8
Location: Jefferson County Recreation Center AM Drop-off
Chetzemoka Park PM Pick-up
Time: 7:00 am – 5:30 pm
Cost: $40/day or $180 for full week
Multiple child 5% discount
DSHS subsidies by arrangement
Drop-in fee
Meals: Breakfast and 2 snacks. You bring lunch and water bottle

Activity Overview:
Activities will include PT biking adventures, arts and crafts, library trips, beach walks and tide exploration, cooking class every morning, indoor and outdoor rec center fun + bouncy castle, parks and picnics. Prepare to have fun with friends!

Although licensure is not required for this seasonal program, Neighborhood Schoolhouse in partnership with Jefferson County Recreation is providing care based on state licensing requirements for childcare. The facility is inspected and insured according to similar state regulations. The staff and teacher/child ratio provided meets all state requirements for background checks, safety and education. The activities planned are developmentally appropriate and based on “best practices” as outlined by the Department of Childcare and Early Learning.

Neighborhood Schoolhouse offers a unique educational curriculum in combination with licensed full day childcare for children of ages 3-5. The program combines natural sciences with music and art. Musical Instruments, the school's organic garden and arts and craft activities are a basis for learning. 

We are not a specific “name brand.”  We have combined the best of traditional early childhood theory and practice, and grounded it in up to date research.  This combination, utilizing theory, practice and current research, provides the foundation for developmentally appropriate best practices.  After all is said and done, we believe what makes a preschool  great for children is that the teachers understand, and apply the  best practices for this developmental group, and create a safe and nurturing environment in which

children will:

  • Make friends
  • Play and work in groups
  • Discover and experience
  • See themselves as learners
  • Learn kindergarten readiness

In cooperation with the City and State regulatory agencies we have created a program that is accountable for the safety and education of the children and families enrolled.  This includes and is not limited to a City building inspection, ADA code requirements, staff background checks, verified educational training and certification, health department inspection, State Fire Marshall inspection and licensing by the DSHS Division of Childcare.

Open since late October 2005, Neighborhood Schoolhouse offers care and curriculum.  We are located diagonally across from Grant Street Elementary, Head Start and YMCA.
